About the Long Island Chapter

The American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) is an organization dedicated to the history and preservation of trucks and the trucking industry.  It was formed in 1971 and is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.  The ATHS has ninety nine local chapters in the United States, Canada, and Australia.  There are over 23,000 members worldwide.

Many of the members own antique trucks, but ownership of a truck is not required to join, only an interest in old trucks and trucking.  The policy of the ATHS is that there is no judging or trophies awarded at shows, that no one truck is better than another, no matter how old or restored it is.  All trucks are welcome for a fun filled day of enjoying each other's trucks.  Membership in the national is a prerequisite for joining a local chapter

For further information on the American Truck Historical Society, visit them at www.aths.org.

Our Chapter was formed in 1993 and chartered by the ATHS in 1994.  We are one of five chapters located in New York State.  Our chapter areas includes all of Long Island which includes Nassau and Suffolk Counties in the eastern half, and the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn in the western half

We meet monthly at various locations throughout the island usually on the fourth Wednesday of the month unless otherwise noted.  In addition to chapter meetings, we have an annual two day antique truck show held in July (usually the weekend after the 4th of July), a truck run to various places of interest around the island each September, an annual chapter family picnic, an end of the year awards dinner in December, plus many truck and die-cast model displays set up throughout the year.  In addition, our members' attends many other shows and parades to represent the chapter.

We currently have over 100 members in our chapter, who amongst them own many antique trucks ranging in models from small pickups to large tractor trailers, stock trucks to customized trucks, and years ranging from a 1912 Alco stake bed to a 1983 GMC model 2500 Sierra flatbed.  Some of our member's trucks have been professionally restored while others are either un-restored or even hand painted with a brush.  To us it does not matter what the old truck looks like, if you have an old truck no matter the year or condition, or if you do not have a truck but just like old trucks, you are welcome to join our club.

If you are interested in becoming a member of our chapter, just fill out the membership application and return it in with your payment at any meeting. Everyone is welcome.  We look forward to meeting you and seeing your trucks at our meetings and functions.
